The island's coastal-marine ecology, which is described in Fiji's Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, contributes to its national significance. Businessman David Gilmour bought it and developed the island. The contentious Seagram's heiress Clare Bronfman, who now owns the majority of the island, purchased it.
