Viti Levu
Fiji's largest island, Viti Levu, is located in the South Pacific Ocean west of the Koro Sea. The word for it is "Great Fiji." A central mountain range with numerous dormant volcanoes divides the island, which was first seen (1789) by Captain William Bligh of the HMS Bounty. Fiji's tallest point, Tomanivi, rises to a height of 4,344 feet. The mountain range creates a climatically distinct division between the island's moist southeast and drier northern regions.
